Our Story

Our story is about family and community.

When I was a young girl in Peterborough Ontario, my family and I were eager to meet the people in our community. My father has always loved food and wanted us to love food as well. His brilliant idea was to bake and distribute cookies to our neighbours every Christmas.

It started out as a small affair: a box of cookies to the neighbours on either side of the house and across the street. My family got together and baked two or three flavours of cookies. Then my mom took my sisters and baby brother and I and we went door to door to deliver the packages. The project grew alongside my siblings and I and by the time we had all started school “Christmas Cookies” had become well known in the neighbourhood and so had we. When we ran up and down the street from the bus stop or the playground, the neighbours would stop us and ask about school, our hobbies, and our parents.

We have incredible neighbours and every year we made more and more cookies and expanded to a larger part of the neighbourhood. Often the neighbours would reciprocate with little gifts, chocolates in the winter, backyard garden strawberries in the summer. It was a great lesson in community building, service and even in growing our faith community.

Over the years the neighbours began asking why we didn’t open a shop so they could enjoy the cookies and visits all year long. When I met my partner we discovered this mutual dream of opening a cafe where people of all kinds would have a safe space to relax and enjoy some warm homemade treats.

It’s our dream to one day open this imagined shop so everyone can experience the warmth of community that I grew up with. Every sale goes towards supporting the growth of this dream and the growth of our community.
